This cigar is one we came across a while back when we had Steve Saka in town for a cigar dinner. Not only was the event a hit and all Steve’s cigars excellent, we had a chance to smoke this “pre-release” version of the Umbagog, a Saka bundle cigar. This is Steve Saka’s bundle cigar. It is his low price entry into his line of great cigars. The Umbagog is a great starting point to try the cigars blended by Steve Saka.
So what’s up with the crazy name? “Umbagog” is Steve’s favorite bass fishing lake which is up in New Hampshire. He named the bundle line to pay tribute to his favorite fishing spot.
This cigar was my personal favorite at the dinner. I found it smoother than its “rich cousin” the Mi Querida. According to Steve the major difference between the two brands is only that the Umbagog wrappers are just not quite as attractive visually, so this “less sightly” wrapper had to get used and not wasted…the result is the Umbagog. To me it’s an excellent smoke.
Regular production and wider distribution may occur as product appears .
It looks like Steve and company have settled on a few solid sizes for this stage. Some of the pre-release sizes we had a few months back are no longer available, but from what we’ve smoked, these sizes are just as tasty, and a great value from an awesome cigar maker.
Packaged in bundles of 10, these are as easy to afford as they are to smoke.
So order up and enjoy.
